COLUMBUS, Ind. (August 30, 2005) - Cummins Inc. (NYSE:CMI) Uptime Guarantee™ program for engines certified to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 3 standards provides the farmer unparalleled support and uptime. The program, launched in May of this year, provides assurance to the agricultural industry that Cummins Tier 3 engines will not only meet, but will exceed customer performance and reliability requirements. The program is the first of its kind in the agricultural industry.

The Uptime Guarantee is an extension of Cummins industry-leading QuickServe® and Mobile QuickServe® programs. Under the guarantee, if a customer's Cummins Tier 3 engine can't be repaired within 48 hours from diagnosis, Cummins will give the customer a $500 parts and service credit. Building on the confidence provided by the Uptime Guarantee for our EPA 2002 Heavy-Duty truck engine customers, Cummins has created a comparable program for customers' Cummins-powered agricultural equipment. "Our Tier 3 engines are proven, tested and highly reliable and, as a result, we are confident that the Uptime Guarantee program will provide farmers looking toward 24/7 availability additional assurance in purchasing equipment powered by our engines," said Dave Crompton, Cummins Vice President and General Manager of MidRange Engine Business.

"We've invested in the right products, proven technology, people and infrastructure to help our customers achieve the uptime they require, and this guarantee program extends our commitment to customers even further by providing world-class support second to none in the industry," he added.

The Uptime Guarantee applies to Cummins Tier 3 QSB - QSX engines placed in service from May 1, 2005, to April 30, 2006, with 12 months' coverage from the in-service date or through April 30, 2006, whichever comes first. Cummins Tier 3 engines feature an in-cylinder solution with minimal OEM installation impact. Cummins has been able to optimize the in-cylinder combustion system to meet Tier 3 NOx levels without the need for external hardware. In addition, the Cummins Tier 3 advanced combustion solution provides a stable engine platform that will carry customers through to 2011 and beyond.
